The countdown is on to NZ’s happiest mid-winter festival, on from 27 June - 26 July 2025. We’re bringing back the magical lights, excitement and merriment, to create a month of festive winter fun.

The Festival of Christmas takes inspiration from our northern hemisphere friends, and add our own kiwi flavour. Think music, twinkling lights, Christmas jerseys, magical displays, live music, snow, delicious food, mulled wine and hot chocolate. Mix in some kiwi ingenuity, local talent, tradition and there you have it. A festival all about togetherness. It’s where friends, whānau and community come together to have some fun, and create special memories.

So, what have we got in store for you this year? Our 2025 theme is “Christmas Carnival”, and with it comes some fun new attractions, alongside your old favourites. Here’s a sneak peek at the highlights:

• Opening Night Street Party, thanks to Greytown Lands Trust – Kick off the festival with a high-energy celebration. We’ve closing off SH2, and creating a street party with live music and performance, snow, and plenty of surprises.

• Immersive Light Up Night Walk – A festival first, we’re creating an enchanted world of glowing art, where stunning light sculptures and interactive displays transform the historic Cobblestones Museum grounds in a breathtaking after-dark experience.

• Carousel Family Fun Zone, supported by Holmes Construction – Feel the nostalgia and festive cheer as the magical Christmas carousel delights riders of all ages

• Kids Circus School Programme - Calling all young performers! Join expert circus trainers for a week of juggling, handstands, tumbling and aerial arts - culminating in a special kids' showcase performance! Taking place Week One of the school holidays.

• Tractor Parade – Bigger & Better! - A fan-favourite returns, bigger and bolder than ever! Marvel at a spectacular convoy of festively decorated tractors, then snap some photos up close at the post-parade park-up.

• The Grand Finale – "Carnivale" Street Parade & Fireworks! – The ultimate festival send-off! A vibrant parade of performers, dancers, floats, and music, leading up to a breathtaking fireworks display to light up the winter sky!

• Mid-Winter Christmas House Tour – thoughtfully styled homes, with festive touches that bring the joy of Christmas to life. The perfect inspiration for your own Christmas haven. Brought to you by Dave and Jennah of Property Brokers, with charity partner Hospice Wairarapa.
